Restless Legs Syndrome: Management in Primary Care

Abstract
Restless leg syndrome is a pathology with a negative impact on people’s quality of life, particularly because of its association with sleep disturbances. Fortunately, once the diagnosis is made most patients have a good response to treatment. The aim of this article is to systematize the diagnosis and the treatment of this disease, focusing on its management in primary care. The treatment of restless leg syndrome includes the implementation of behavioral changes and the correction of iron deficiency if it is present. In some cases the use of specific drugs is required, daily or as needed according to the severity of symptoms. It is crucial that these patients, who often suffer from anxiety, depression and other sleep disorders, are followed correctly.
